Opportunity to fulfill BOK # 11 - Understanding importance...Maori knowledge frameworks
The meeting to discuss the governance proposal in Whangarei will be on Thursday 18th June at 3pm at the Central Library.Light refreashments will be providedBarbara Garriock (President Elect) will be facilitating. Hikuwai Regional Councillor - Kim Taunga- will also be attending.The meeting will focus on the governance proposal's discussion questions:
* Do you think the proposed governance structure would allow for your views and interests to be represented within the wider organisation of LIANZA?

I hope you received your invitations to blog with me. I apologise for the delay in working out how to invite you. It seems so simply now!
We have had several opportunities to add to our BOK
- viewing / discussing the National Library new and planned digital services powerpoint presentation. View at www.natlib.govt.nz/downloads/Access-to-services-collections-Mar-2009-new.pdf
- Also the CPD wheel has been a year in development and is intended to be used primarily as a tool to help you easily identify and register for professional development courses to satisfy the requirements of revalidation for professional registration.
Even if you are not professionally registered, the wheel is intended to be a one-stop-shop for CPD events offered by LIANZA and ALIA (on-line courses).

Initial BOK Meeting Friday 15th Whangarei Central Library
Present: Paula Urlich, Arasteh Hancock, Visnja Susnjar, Gaylene Town-Treeweek, Jill Browne, Penny Frood, Jac Jenkins, Lynne Snell.
Requirements of LIANZA Professional Registration means keeping a Journal documenting our Body of Knowledge. Templates available at http://www.lianza.org.nz/registration/files/revalidation_journal_template.xls
If you hold the cursor at the top right corner of any square (small red triangle), the description and examples of activities pop up.
Suggestion made to use our Outlook Calendar to note activities. Enter them in as appointments and use a colour for immediate identification. This will enable you to recognise them later and use them in your journal.
Over the three years we need to cover each of the eleven BOK elements. Some activities will lend themselves to more that one BOK entry, eg. attending a seminar on 'Bi-Cultural Sensitivity' would fulfill BOK 3 Assessment of Information needs and Design of Responsive Services' and then implementing what was learned, would fit BOK 11, Awareness of Maori Paradigms. Well, thats my interpretation. I hope you get the picture.
Coverage of all 11 areas in the Body of Knowledge, activity in 3 of the 4 Domain areas, and at least 10 activies per year for the duration of the revalidation period, as well as commenting on the learning outcomes of each activity undertaken ... to be commented on next blog.

Setting up the format of communication!
Hello, all you fellow librarians in the North. Welcome. This is an interactive tool so that we can all contribute to our journey of learning. Following soon will be the notes from the initial meeting held last Friday 15th at the Whangarei Library. Attendees will be named so you can talk to them (if you are so lucky as to actually be in Whangarei). Thanks for looking - and please contribute.
